Bird Paintings

Image
I love to paint birds more than anything else. What I like most about this is the detailing. I could spend hours adding teeny-tiny brush strokes to get the texture of the feathers right. Also, I love the variety of colors in birds and trying to get them onto paper.  I have posted here some of those paintings from 2016 to 2022.  2016 These two were drawn for an exhibition. Both birds are endemic to Sri Lanka. Drawn opaque in watercolor. 1. Sri Lanka Hanging Parrot ( Loriculus beryllinus ) 2. Sri Lankan blue magpie ( Urocissa ornata ) 2017 These two I painted to be given as a present. 1. Kingfisher   2. Paradise flycatcher 2022 These are also endemic to Sri Lanka. Painted using watercolor. 1. Crimson fronted barbet ( Megalaima rubricapillus ) 2. Chestnut-backed owl  ( Glaucidium castanotum )

I painted this for an exhibition in school. Loved the process of painting, specially those tiny brush strokes to draw the cat's fur. It felt like meditation.

Durga and Apu

Image
I painted this in 2016 for an art exhibition. The story behind the painting: This painting depicts the characters Durga and Apu from the book Pather Panchali by  Bibhutibhushan Bandyopadhyay (Indian). The story is about two siblings from a rural area in Bengal. Their village is so remote and hidden from the modern world and they have never been out of the village. Both the kids have heard about Trains  (which they have never seen)  from their father  and desperately wish to see one. Once, they attempt to reach the railway station on their own but fail due to the large distance between their village and the train station. At a later point in the book, Durga catches Malaria and passes away. On her dying breath she asks her brother "Apu will you show me the train one day?".  I love this book so much and the above scene has hit me hard. It breaks my heart whenever I think about Durga's death and her absolutely innocent yet unfulfilled wish. So I decided to change the story a

I painted this in 2017 for an inter-school Astro-art competition. This painting won first place in the competition. I have always enjoyed painting miniature deep-sky objects for greeting cards, but this was the first time of doing it as an actual painting. It was an awesome experience😄
